More Emma

Randy and I had the great privilege of watching Emma today for Meredith and Steve to go visit with some friends.  We had a blast!!  Having her around is pure joy.

Among our activities today were a new farm that makes animal noises, a picnic in the living room floor, more episodes of Blue's Clues and Mickey Mouse than I care to count, a nap, cooking dinner for the whole crew, Emma helping me cook and unpack groceries, and lots and lots of time just watching the little miracle of Emma.  (Can you tell Randy and I are happy to be grandparents?!)

Today's Harvest

In spite of three-digit temperatures, the okra, butternut squash, and purple hull peas are still producing yummy stuff to eat.  The okra plants in the compost pile have finally produced their first two okra shoots.  :)

Emm---mmmaaaa!!

Yesterday, Randy and I got to babysit granddaughter Emma while Meredith and Steve enjoyed a much needed childless date to see Harry Potter.  During the three hours they were gone we watched videos on TV and the computer, looked at pictures of Emma on the computer, colored, played with toys, snacked on cheese sticks and yogurt, fixed Emma's hair, rearranged her furniture in the living room a dozen times, read books, played hand jive with Grandy, cooked brownies with Emma's help for Steve, had Tickle Time, enjoyed the porch swing for a very short time (107 degrees outside), played the piano, and practiced ABC's and colors, and that was just while Meredith and Steve were gone.

When they returned, we all ate dinner at Cheddar's, during which time Emma played with silverware, read the drink menu (the one with pictures), drank water, ate chips, went back and forth between Meredith and Grandma, and ended up falling asleep in Grandma's lap for a 20-minute power nap.  (All together now...  "awww...").

After dinner, we changed and went swimming.  I only took 150 pictures throughout the day.  Haha!  At the pool, Emma swam and got in and out of the pool a couple of dozen times.  When she got tired, Emma and I came back home to get her changed and have a snack before the "grown-ups" got back from the pool.

Emma is a fantastic, smart almost three-year-old adorable little girl.  Being a grandparent truly is one of life's treasured moments.

For those of you who know me well, yes, I really did get a Disney princess table and chairs  with an umbrella for Emma and set it up in the middle of the living room!  Emma, being the genius that she is, quickly learned how to take the umbrella out to have room for her big coloring book.

For those of you who know Randy well, yes, he actually turned OFF a CUBS game in favor of a video for Emma.  That, my friends, is significant!
